Road to Uni: Shopping on a budget
Stationary: One thing that is great about now is that for other kids/students in HK they are prepping to get ready for school therefore *drum roll* there are many places such as park'n'shop, Japanese home, Jusco etc. Which are doing sales on stationary, binders and such. So if you want to find cheaper stationary to bring to Uni with you you can do it easily.
Sim Card: The sim card is fairly easy to sort out because if you have used UCAS which I think is all of
{UK} you then you should have recieved loads advertisement from phone companies coming
through the mail. They are Topup sim cards like your octopus so you add money and you
can make calls until the money runs out. Here are the companies so far:
1. Vodafone: £10 and you get free 100 international minutes. I think the calls in the UK are
around a couple pences so should have quite a lot of minutes on it.
2. Lycamobile: there are 2 national bundles one £10 for 250 minutes with unlimited text,
data. Calls to HK are 1p. OR £20 for 1000 mins unlimited text, data etc.
Mini Irons I personally got my Hair dryer in Park'n'shop for under $50 so I was pleased. They
and Hair dryers: have a lot of travel gear so there are always chances to get mini appliances however
try to avoid buying a rice cooker from park'n'shop at the moment as they are still pretty
pricey.
Rice Cookers: It is harder to find cheap rice cookers as there is not a set season. However, you can get
a multi-cooker rice cooker which means you can cook more than just rice, but cakes,
soups as well. It is worth its money!
{Girls Only} Pads: Ok buying pads is a big deal ok. Most countries have pads to buy however they are
Super expensive! For example the UK in my case not a lot of people use Pads they
tend to sell tampons... so its my preference to use pads instead so if you are going
to the UK make sure you buy pads in HK!! (but this is only for those of you who
prefer pads. I know pads are prices but trust me when you need them you need
them!
If I forgot anything else let me know!

Road to Uni: Making room in your suitcase
When shopping for stuff to bring to uni it is sometimes hard to remember what you bought already and when it comes the day when you have to pack everything into a suitcase you realise that there really isn't enough space. The maximum you can check in is usually from 25kg to 35kg. 25kg for Canada and 35kg for the UK. However, when booking your flight they sometimes offer bonus kg that you can bring but this is often rare. Also if you are a student they are often flexible if you go over by 1-5 kg but no more!
I heard from a friend that she is only allowed to check in 1 large luggage! I was shocked because they can't possibly pack half a years worth of stuff in just 1 luggage -_-
So some tips for those of you who have restrictions or just want some more room:
1. Buy those vacuum-able bags it is great for blankets! These can be purchased in Japanese Home, Jusco, Park'n'shop!
2. Buy mini everything! Mini iron (there are irons and hairdryers made just for travelling! They are
often cheaper than regular sized irons etc.)
3. Only bring the essentials there is a high chance that shampoo etc. can be bought there, just buy the things you know HK is cheaper for.
4. Buy a LARGE suitcase dont bring multiple little ones there is a high chance that they will only check in one :o
5. If you can bring someone to help you lug a few suitcases. It will be easier to handle and each person can bring one suitcase. But if you cant don't worry!

Road to Uni: Booking Flights 27th July
Flight details and Booking ar the most important thing you can prepare when preping for your travels. Because most Universities start in September it may not seem like a problem to get tickets as it isn't "Holiday Season" but the thing you would have forgotten was it isn't just you going to Uni, but there are hundreds of Students who are going to Uni this year. If your going to a Uni in the UK be sure to expect crowded flights as it is a top travel destination as well as the US.
Top Tips:
1. Book your flight early - so its out of the way and you can focus on packing
2. Book your return flight (optional) - if you are planning to stay in that country then it is
not needed but for those of you who will be returning to HK be sure to book your
tickets NOW! December is the "Holiday season" so many people are going to travel!
BE WARNED :)
If you are going to the UK like me for direct Flights there are 3 main websites and airlines to browse:
1. Cathay Pacific
2. British Airways
3. Virgin Atlantic
These are the Top airlines that offer direct travel from HK to UK. British Airways and Cathay pacific are around the same price however if you want a more budgeted flight you may look at Virgin Atlantic! There are other alternatives as well such as 1 stop (e.g Emirates) flights which are often $6000 HKD cheaper! But my advice is direct flight is best because it is less likely that your baggage will get lost! But thats only my advice!
Some travel agencies offer cheaper tickets for students so have a look!
Also If you university has Airport pickup service quickly sign up for it, it is a free and... Its free! GRAB IT!
If not then you can always hire a Taxi, your school should have details for this. It is best to hire a Taxi through your university than your self because I once hired one for myself but they didn't come hmpf...
BUUUUTTT if you are going with friends you can also book a coach. It is cheaper than hiring at taxi. You can also do this through your Uni :)

Happy Booking and Hope this helps,

Good Uni Research Tools! 17th July
After my results day I had to get busy and looked at numerous sources for help at finding university information and legitimate chat sites and came across a few useful sites. Thought I should share them with you. However, bare in mind that some of these are strictly for UK universities however others are suited for anyone really. So to prepare for the big change my sister helped me create a list of what I needed from Shower to food and kitchen utensils. Here is what I have so far:
1. Shower gear:
-Towels, toothbrushes, hairdryers, hairbrushes, Shower gels and shampoo etc.
2. Organizational storage:
- Storage bins, Laundry Hampers, Sewing kit, first aid, hangers, storage hooks etc.
3. Study materials:
- Laptop, chargers, cables, camera, stationary, extension cord, calendars etc.
4. Sleeping gear:
- Pillow case, alarm clock, bed sets, Blanket, pillows etc.
5. Food/Kitchen:
- Dishes, microwavable cookware, containers, Chip clips (super useful!) etc.
6. Laundry:
- Iron.
I know that most of the things on this list can be easily bought in the UK or anywhere but to be honest I think that buying things in HK is a lot cheaper!

Results day! July 6th 8pm
I am aware that this is a sensitive topic but just want to share how mine went!
I must admit that this was one of those days which would determine everything. Life and death if I was to exaggerate it. Before the results I had gone out with my friends to Namco (Check my HK places for what it is), which is the best place if I should say to distract yourself. My friends and I had a blast, killing zombies and spiders to Mario cart. It really got our minds off things... for those few hours. We left at around 6ish and sat in Starbucks. I must admit that I was freaking terrified at the final 2hours of freedom. Getting home was the longest and most daunting journey, seemed like hours, and the staring from the passengers did not help. Anyways don't want to bore you with too much but I got home and got the results secretly hoping that the IB site would lag... but it didn't.... dun dun duuuunnn!! Good or Bad you will never know haha! Lets just say that I was surprised :) I learned a valuable lesson that day that even though you think you could have done better, you cant change it and just have to move on! 加油!
